TRADITIONAL KARATE CLASSES
Mini Pee Wee (ages 4-5) TU, W*(NLPD), TH, 30 min;
Emphasis is on basic motor skills, self-control, and fun to help children develop a strong foundation for future karate study. Four levels of advancement are possible. Certificates and pins are awarded for each level completed.
Pee Wee (ages 6-7) TU, W*(NLPD), TH, 30 min;
Emphasis is on building motor skills, coordination and self-control with increasingly difficult drills and exercises. Belts may be earned at this level if the child owns the Gi pants and school t-shirt, otherwise a pin will be given. Partial Gi is required at PW 2 with full Gi required at PW 4.
Advanced Pee Wee (ages 8-12) TU, TH, 60 min;
For beginners ages 8-10 and continuing students ranked PW 5 - PW 9, this class provides full martial arts instruction, working on fitness, coordination, and team drills. While enrolled in this class, the children learn all the material for the Adult White Belt test, broken into 9 levels to facilitate consistent progression. Belts are earned at each level, from PW 1 through PW 9. Partial Gi is required at PW 2 with full Gi required at PW 4. There is lots of camaraderie and fun in this class, with extra emphasis on the martial arts way of life: academic excellence, responsibility, and respect.
Junior Belts (ages 12-16) TU, W, TH, 60 min;
For our older beginners ages 11-16 and continuing students ranked White through Brown Belt, this class teaches the first 8 Kyu (solid belt) levels. See schedule for rank specific dates.
Beginner Adult (ages 16+) TH, 60 min;
The standard Shorei Goju Ryu karate curriculum taught in this class is for the beginner to advanced (Pre-White) through brown belt. A mix of exercise, coordination drills, forms instruction, and self-defense is taught throughout the term. This is a great class for teens, parents with their teens, or adults who want to learn karate and improve their fitness level.
Beginner/Advanced Adult (ages 16+) TU, 60 min;
For adults only who are white belt rank or higher, this class provides focused instruction on the material needed for belt advancement as well as advanced katas, self-defense techniques, and body conditioning.
Weapons & Sparring
Weapons (ages 10+ or w/ Sensei’s Approval) W, SA , 60 min;
Increase your karate versatility by adding Kobudo (weapons forms) including Bo, Bokken, Nunchaku, Kama, Tonfa and Sai katas as well as self-defense.
Junior Sparring (ages 7-12) W, SA , 45 min;
Learn the fundamentals of traditional karate competition sparring. This class is a great workout and helps younger children build focus, control and coordination. Children who enroll in the sparring class may compete in tournaments.
Adult Sparring (ages 13+) SA, 45 min;
Learn the fundamentals of traditional karate competition sparring. This class is a great cardio workout and helps you build focus, control and coordination. Participants may compete in tournaments.
Private Lessons (all ages) Various Days Available, 30 min;
Please call to schedule. 30 minute credit price varies by instructor level: Purple Belt Instructor = 2 credits, Brown Belt Instructor = 3 credits, Lower Black Belt = 4 credits, Sensei Carroll = 5 credits.
Competition Team (all ages) every other F, 60 min;
Invitation only. Try outs are offered periodically by Sensei Carroll. This class is offered free of charge to those students whom Sensei Carroll believes have what it takes to be a good competitor in tournament kata. Parents pay all tournament registration fees and provide transportation for their children to/from tournaments.
